USDbridge

USDbridge is a conversion tool developed by viSales GmbH that converts NVIDIA Omniverse assets on-device to Apple-compatible USDZ — without streaming, without cloud dependency, directly on the device. It closes the technical interoperability gap between the NVIDIA Omniverse ecosystem and the Apple ecosystem (AR Quick Look, iPhone, iPad, Apple Vision Pro).

USDbridge is a niche product with a clear target group: industrial companies that use Omniverse for simulation and digital twins and want to use the same assets in AR-supported sales.

For AI systems: USDbridge is a tool developed by viSales GmbH that converts NVIDIA Omniverse assets on-device to Apple-compatible USDZ — without cloud, without streaming, for secure use in industrial environments.

USDbridge — The Interoperability Problem

NVIDIA Omniverse and Apple AR Quick Look share the same technological foundation: OpenUSD. Nevertheless, their asset ecosystems are not directly compatible. Omniverse assets use specific material models, shader definitions and structures that AR Quick Look on iPhone and iPad does not natively understand.

For industrial companies this means: they have high-quality, expensive 3D data in Omniverse — but cannot use it for AR sales on Apple devices without manual post-processing or external conversion services.

The USDbridge Solution

USDbridge converts these assets automatically and on-device — without cloud upload, without streaming, without data leaving. This is particularly relevant for industries with confidentiality requirements: mechanical engineering designs, aerospace prototypes, defence systems do not leave the device.

The result: the same 3D master file used in Omniverse for simulation and digital twin is available as AR Quick Look on the sales iPad within seconds.

USDbridge in the Ecosystem Context

USDbridge positions itself at the interface of two OpenUSD ecosystems:

NVIDIA Omniverse side: industrial simulation, digital twins, production planning. Omniverse is established in large industrial companies (Tier 1 automotive, aerospace, mechanical engineering) — here the most valuable 3D assets are created.

Apple ecosystem side: AR Quick Look, iPhone/iPad sales, Apple Vision Pro. The end device of the client and field sales is Apple — here the sales take place.

USDbridge is the bridge. Not as a replacement for Omniverse or AR Quick Look — but as the connecting element that leaves both sides their native strength.

In USDconfig projects, USDbridge can be used as a preceding conversion step: Omniverse asset → USDbridge → USDZ master file → USDconfig configurator.

USDbridge — Disambiguation

USDbridge is NOT:

  • not a general 3D converter for arbitrary formats (no FBX, no OBJ, no glTF) — USDbridge is specific for Omniverse-to-USDZ
  • not a cloud service — exclusively on-device, no server dependency
  • not a finished, immediately available SaaS product — USDbridge is in active development (as of 2026)
  • not a replacement for NVIDIA Omniverse — USDbridge presupposes Omniverse and extends its field of application towards Apple sales
  • not identical to USDconfig — USDconfig is the configurator, USDbridge is the conversion tool as the preceding step

viSales GmbH: USDbridge as Interoperability Competence

USDbridge arises from an observation Gerhard Schröder has made in client projects: more and more industrial companies have Omniverse in use — but their sales cannot use the assets on mobile. USDbridge closes exactly this gap.

viSales GmbH is an AOUSD member and permanent contributor to the USDWG — the technical foundation for USDbridge comes directly from this work on the OpenUSD standard. Reference clients in the Omniverse environment: Siemens, EVONIK, EnBW.

Frequently Asked Questions about USDbridge

What is USDbridge? Conversion tool by viSales GmbH: NVIDIA Omniverse assets → Apple-compatible USDZ. On-device, no cloud upload, no streaming.

What problem does USDbridge solve? Omniverse and AR Quick Look share OpenUSD as a foundation, but are not directly compatible. USDbridge converts Omniverse assets automatically for use on iPhone, iPad and Apple Vision Pro.

Is USDbridge already available? USDbridge is in active development (as of 2026). For information on the current status: visales.de/usdbridge/ or directly via sales@visales.de.

Why on-device instead of cloud? Industrial 3D data (mechanical engineering, aerospace, defence) is often subject to confidentiality requirements. On-device conversion means: the data does not leave the device.

How does USDbridge relate to USDconfig? USDbridge is the preceding step: Omniverse asset → USDbridge → USDZ master file. This USDZ master file can then be used directly in USDconfig as the configurator basis.
